Abstract

The article relates the experience of incorporating the topic “cultural management” in the curriculum of the Bachelor of Librarianship at the University of the Republic, Uruguay. Through this path and the different approaches that “cultural management” entails, the article arguments on the fundamentals of the perspective given to such training in the context of discipline and professional practice. Likewise, the contribution made by librarianship to cultural management is shown, specifically regarding the role of cultural mediators of librarians and their contribution to cultural citizenship. In the final considerations, other curricular developments promoted from the experience are noted, while future perspectives are outlined. It is understood that these contribute to the visibility of the professional career and of libraries as cultural services as well as to the promotion of university functions, especially research, in an area that requires it for their disciplinary growth.
